6 tips to keep your New Year’s resolution
There is something magical about starting a new year. It feels like a portal opens, and a new wind of energy comes rushing in. It's a reminder that life comes in cycles, and we should take hold of the good and let go of the bad, face new challenges, and open new chances to renew our lives.
It is great to have a list of New Year's resolutions, but it is best to have a game plan to effectively execute the goals in the months to come. Below, we have compiled some tips to help you with your fitness and personal New Year resolutions:
Be Selective: Instead of setting multiple resolutions, focus on one or two specific goals to increase the likelihood of success. This approach allows for concentrated efforts and avoids feeling like a failure for not achieving numerous resolutions.
Plan Your Resolution: Properly plan and think through how you will accomplish your resolution. Consider the steps needed and the time required. For example, if quitting smoking is your goal, research the average time it takes and possible setbacks to anticipate.
Set Specific Goals: Avoid vague resolutions like "exercise more." Instead, establish detailed, measurable goals such as "exercise 30 minutes daily." This provides a clear target to achieve daily and fosters a sense of accomplishment.
Start Small: Begin with realistic, achievable goals to avoid setting overly high expectations. For weight loss, consider a small and realistic goal like losing 10 pounds in two months before progressing to larger milestones.
Accountability Partners: Seek support from friends, work out partners at the gym, or family members as accountability partners. Having a community around you can provide motivation and reminders, helping you stay on track with your resolutions.
Patience is Key: Remember that forming new habits takes time. On average, it takes about 66 days to establish a new habit. Be patient with yourself, persevere through setbacks, and keep working towards your goal until it becomes a natural part of your routine.
